SNA Tools & Templates to Engage Students in School Meals

Refresh your efforts to engage students with SNA’s latest resource tool, developed with our friends at National Dairy Council and Fuel Up to Play 60. “Ingredients for Increased Student Engagement” (http://schoolnutrition.org/engage) was designed for school nutrition professionals at all levels to help you open the lines of communication and empower students to become more involved in your school meal program.

SNA’s marketing team was fortunate to have had the opportunity to lead conversations with Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassadors to learn what students are thinking when it comes to school meals. The Youth Engagement Network Pilot was designed to help us better understand student perceptions of school meals; we worked with Student Ambassadors to identify barriers to school meal participation, dispel myths surrounding school meals, and create some “best practices” for effective student/cafeteria collaboration.

We’ve made a printable, full-color summary that’s perfect for sharing with your school nutrition team; download and print copies to review, and start brainstorming with your staff on how to increase awareness of and participation in school meals in your cafeteria.

Are you joining us for #ANC17 in Atlanta, Georgia? Don’t miss the one hour District Directors Section Meeting on Sunday, July 9, 2017, made possible with the support of the National Dairy Council. Sit down with a panel of student experts and our session moderator, Vice President for Planning and Implementation of Fuel Up to Play 60, Dottie Ryan (RD, LDN). Adia (grade 5), Will (grade 8), and Tyler (grade 10) will share their FUTP60 Student Ambassador experiences and “Gen Z” expertise.

Thanks/Contributions
Linette Dodson, PhD, RD, LD, SNS, FAND, Director of School Nutrition, Carrollton City Schools in Georgia and Sandra Voss MS, RD, SNS, Director of Food & Nutrition Services, Marquardt School District 15 in Illinois who helped uncover insights in discussions with the Student Ambassadors and provided input on some of the resources.
