Exhibitors Turn the Tables on Hunger Post-ANC

SNA’s Annual National Conference (ANC) has been over for a week, but the good news—beyond substantial attendance, the induction of Lynn Harvey as SNA President and a phenomenal address by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, among others—keeps on rolling. Each year, the generous vendors exhibiting at ANC have donated both perishable and shelf-stable items at the close of the conference.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) was this year’s recipient organization for all items donated from the ANC exhibitor community. This includes all types of products from canned and boxed items to fresh, refrigerated and frozen. SNA’s Exhibit Services firm, GES, orchestrated the logistics and coordinated with ACFB, ensuring all available products were placed into the willing hands of 25 volunteers.

In this single donation, SNA and its 405 exhibiting companies provided 45,218 lbs. to ACFB, translating into approximately 37,681 meals. With more than 1 in every 4 children in Georgia living in a food insecure household (per the 2014 Hunger in America study), those are numbers SNA and its vendor partners are proud stand behind.

According to Feeding America’s Hunger in America 2014 report, which can be accessed on the Atlanta Community Food Bank website (acfb.org/facts-stats), 63% of children in the state of Georgia rely on the meals provided by school nutrition programs day-to-day. Additionally, an estimated 755,400 individuals (or 1 in 7 people) in the metro Atlanta and north Georgia area turn to food banks partnered with ACFB for food, at an average of 8 times per year each.

Since 2010, SNA has donated almost 300,000 pounds of food items to local hunger relief organizations following its conferences in Dallas, Nashville, Denver, Kansas City, Boston, Salt Lake City, San Antonio and Atlanta.
