SNA Submits Comments on Federal Register Notices

2017-08-15

SNA is constantly monitoring Federal Register Notices looking for opportunities to have input on sound school nutrition policy. Recently, there have been several notices to which SNA submitted comments. Visit the provided links below to read the full letters and details of SNA’s Federal Register Notice comments:

  • The first submission was regarding the Access, Participation, Eligibility and Certification (APEC) III Study that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) plans to conduct on the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). SNA resubmitted a 2016 letter that offered recommendations about the study.

  • The second submission was on the Study of School Food Authority (SFA) Procurement Practices. SNA’s comments urged USDA to make recommendations that are consistent and applicable to all schools, have an appropriate sample size, and provide a comprehensive assessment of available resources, challenges and barriers.

  • The third comment submission dealt with Assessing the Child Nutrition State Administrative Expense Allocation Formula. SNA supports ensuring that the formula remains effective, so long as it does not do harm to any state’s funding. SNA also recommends that any funding formula alternative consider the current regulatory demands on state agencies, cover all on-going expenses of the child nutrition programs it supports, and fund new ongoing initiatives and special projects and programs.
