SNA Member Crowned Next Food Network Star

SNA Member Jason Smith Crowned Next Food Network Star

Jason Smith, who took home top honors in the Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship and Holiday Baking Championship Special late in 2016, prevailed in an exciting 11-week reality television competition to become the next “Food Network Star.” Smith is the winner of Season 13 of the popular cable series, hosted and judged by celebrity chefs Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis. The results were announced Sunday, August 13. Congratulations, Jason!

Smith, a cafeteria manager at Isonville Elementary School, in Grayson, Kentucky, has been an SNA member since 2014 and currently serves on the Kentucky SNA Executive Board. In an interview published on the network’s site, Smith expects a big reaction from the kids at his school: “Lord honey, I believe they will just jump over the tables and stuff. I mean, they’re going to be cray-z. They’re going to be crazier than when I won Holiday Baking. It is going to be a nut house. I can see it now.”

The program selects aspiring celebrity chefs to compete in different challenges in the hopes of winning their own program on the cable network. Many former winners have gone on to publish cookbooks, judge other competitions and (like former winner Guy Fieri) host new shows.
