Dear Representatives Pelosi, Hoyer, Clyburn, Boehner, and Cantor:
We, the undersigned members of the School Nutrition Association, are writing to ask your help to pass a robustly funded and comprehensive Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act before the end of the 111th Congress. By doing so, you will ensure that 31 million American children have access to healthy, nutritious and affordable school meals.
As school nutrition professionals, we work hard each day to provide quality meals to all children. The school meals we serve play an important role in the fight against childhood obesity by teaching children to make healthy choices. The school lunch and breakfast programs also ensure that all children have access to nutritious, high-quality meals. As many more families now rely on the school nutrition programs, these meals fill a critical need.
We respectfully ask that you pass H. R. 5504 before the end of this Congress. Passing a strong and adequately funded Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act will help us meet the dual goals of ending childhood hunger and reducing the instance of childhood obesity by 2015.
