Maintaining Your Certificate in School Nutrition

NOTE: Certificate Renewals, Trainer Certificate Maintenance, and SNS Credential Maintenance can now be submitted online! You will need to select your renewal/maintenance option in the Shopping Cart. Individuals submitting fees (SNA Members and Non-Members) must log-in to receive the applicable rates.

  • Your SNA Certificate in School Nutrition is valid for one year. Renewal forms are mailed three months before expiration. It is your responsibility to renew your certificate on time to avoid your certificate being cancelled.
  • You must complete the required number of CEUs during your annual certificate period and maintain records of CEUs earned. SNA checks for proof of CEUs via a random audit. Only those chosen for the audit will be required to send in documentation of CEUs earned.

  • If you are selected for an audit, notification to send CEU documentation to SNA will be included in your annual renewal notice.
  • Submit the annual renewal fee with the renewal form at least 4 weeks prior to your expiration date, to SNA.
  • After SNA reviews and approves your certificate renewal, you will receive notification of approval. Please allow 4–6 weeks for processing.
  • To show your school district that you obtained your Certificate in School Nutrition, print out your Certificate by visiting My Account.
  • If your renewal form is incomplete, you will receive a letter explaining what else is required to maintain your certificate.
  • In order to pay the member renewal rate, your membership status must be active during your entire certificate period. If your membership status was inactive at any point, you will be required to pay the non-member rate.

Maintaining Your Trainer Certificate in School Nutrition

  • SNA’s Trainer Certificate in School Nutrition is valid for three years.
  • Maintain your Trainer Certificate by paying the annual maintenance fee (note that annual fees are subject to change.)
  • Trainer Certificates need to be renewed every 3 years. Trainers must teach at least 1 class within the 3 year period.
  • SNA will mail you a letter and renewal application three months prior to your Trainer Certificate expiration.
  • To renew: at least four weeks prior to your Trainer Certificate expiration, please submit your renewal form, payment and documentation for the class you taught. This should include an agenda listing the class objectives, date, time, location and class evaluation forms.  
  • In order to pay the member renewal rate, your membership status must be active during your entire Trainer Certificate period. If your membership status was inactive at any point, you will be required to pay the non-member rate.
  • After SNA reviews and approves your Trainer Certificate renewal, you will receive notification of approval. Please allow 4–6 weeks for your renewal to be processed.
  • If your renewal form is incomplete, you will receive a letter explaining what else is required to reactivate your Trainer Certificate.
