This year, the election features 22 candidates from around the country who share a common interest: a passion for child nutrition. It is critical that you take advantage of the opportunity to vote in this year’s election. By participating in the voting process, you are helping to select the leaders who will take the Association into the future in order to further the cause of child nutrition.
How to VoteIn order to vote, your SNA membership must have been valid and current as of May 31, 2012. You will NOT be eligible to vote if you became a member or reinstated your membership after this date. Members in the Affiliate, Other or Student membership category are not eligible to vote. The slate of candidates that you are eligible to vote for is based on your membership section and the SNA region you work in.
To cast your vote, go to www.schoolnutrition.org/snaelection and click on “Vote Now.” You will be prompted to enter your SNA username and password. Once you have logged in, you will be directed to the voting site where you will then vote. Prompts will guide you through the online voting process, but to save time, please make all of your selections in advance.
The newly elected Board of Directors and Nominating Committee representatives will be announced in late November and officers will be installed in July 2013 at SNA’s Annual National Conference in Kansas City, Mo. October 23, 2012 – The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) is proud to announce that it has reached a fundraising milestone for the Josephine Martin Endowment Fund. As of today, SNF has raised $10,155 toward the ultimate goal of $75,000.
The Josephine Martin Endowment Committee has been hard at work since the Fund’s formation just two months ago. The aim of the Fund is to provide an SNA member the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., for the SNA’s Legislative Action Conference for the first time.
This Fund serves as a fitting tribute to Dr. Martin’s passion for child nutrition and ensures that the voices of child nutrition professionals will continue to be heard by legislators and policy makers at the local, state and national level.

October 11, 2012—As schools prepare to showcase their achievements and improvements in the lunchroom during National School Lunch Week (October 15-19), the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) is bringing attention to gluten-free needs and how schools can meet them. Available online from NFCA are resources that may be useful to school nutrition operations, including a tip sheet titled “8 Great Ways to Recognize Gluten-Free Needs During National School Lunch Week.”
To help school nutrition professionals meet gluten-free needs throughout the school year, NFCA also offers an online gluten-free training program for school nutrition professionals and a month-long meal plan that schools can adopt for serving gluten-free students.

October 5, 2012—The Whole Grains Council invites school nutrition professionals to enter the Sixth Annual Whole Grains Challenge. Participants can enter in one of two categories: “Veterans,” for those schools that had been offering a variety of whole grains even before the new meal pattern regulation, and “Rookies,” for schools that have made significant progress in boosting whole grains in school meals, but could use some additional assistance in preparing kid-friendly whole-grain options. One school will win the grand prize of a visit from a guest chef, who will conduct a workshop on preparing whole-grain kid-friendly dishes.
Five winners from each category will receive a variety of cases of whole grain-rich products.
