Keep veggies out of the trash cans and increase consumption by encouraging students to be “Super Food Testers.” Learn how to successfully implement a Branded Sampling Program to allow students opportunities to taste different fruit and vegetable recipes while providing nutrition education. You’ll also find out how to develop an implementation plan to increase fruit and vegetable consumption and keep students excited about school lunch!

Salternatives—Creative Ways to Boost Flavor and Maximize Taste
This discussion will focus on the new sodium targets for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). A panel will present individual case studies on how they designed their menus to meet the new sodium targets while maintaining or improving program participation rates.

Food Science: A Menu Development and Education Tool
Join this session to learn how different fat types, whole grains, sugar, salt and other sodium contributors are functioning in the foods on your menu. Participants will be able to use information to educate students on the foods they are eating.

A Picture Tells 100 Words— Una Imagen Dice 100 Palabras
This session will empower cafeteria staff that use Spanish as a primary language to learn about school meals and nutrition using pictures…the international language! This interactive session will help attendees better understand reimbursable meals while also acquiring basic English to read labels, recipes and instructions. It will be taught in both English and Spanish.

We Are the Change Agents!
According to research, overweight and obese children gain weight at an alarming rate over the summer and then significantly lose weight when they return to school. Fortunately, the school environment, including school meals, provides healthy food options and nutrition education to our nation’s youth. In this session, glean how school nutrition professionals can be the change agents in their communities and schools.

Delight Students with Healthy Comfort Foods at School
Research has shown that kids’ favorite place to eat today is at home. This session explores what schools are doing to address the increased interest in home-style foods. Participants will learn a variety of ways to combine effective menu planning, merchandising practices and marketing to increase participation.

#SuperTracker=SuperSchools: Recipe Analysis, Worksite Wellness and Lesson Plans
SuperTracker is a free tool that can be used to improve health and nutrition in the classroom, at home, in the kitchen and the cafeteria. Come to this session to understand how SuperTracker can be used for recipe analysis, worksite wellness promotion, personal food and physical activity tracking and classroom lessons. Hear how SuperTracker can be a lifetime “super” tool for both your professional and personal life.

White, Chocolate or Yogurt at Breakfast?
This session will deliver details from a recent research study which explored milk and yogurt selection among students participating in a Universal School Breakfast Program. You will be introduced to the types of dairy products chosen by boys and girls at breakfast in both elementary and secondary schools and learn about effective breakfast service alternatives.

Experiential Nutrition Education: Promoting Healthy Habits
Discover how schools can employ fun, educational activities—like taste tests, school gardens and farm tours to advance child nutrition. Attendees will be given fact sheets, toolkits and real-world examples from across the country on how to successfully implement experiential nutrition education in order to promote healthy eating habits.
