SNA VP Candidates Announced

In July, during SNA’s Annual National Conference (ANC), the Association’s Nominating Committee announced it had selected the two candidates to run for the position of Vice President of its Board of Directors from among the nominees. The winner will be installed in July 2016 and go on to serve as SNA President in 2018-19. The candidates are (in alphabetical order): Gay Anderson, SNS, Brandon, S.D., and Linda Eichenberger, SNS, Cincinnati, Ohio. Anderson recently completed a two-year term on the Board as Education Committee Chair, and Eichenberger now begins her second year on the Board as Secretary/Treasurer.

Candidates for four other positions on the 2016 election slate for Board of Directors also were announced at ANC. These are:

Secretary/Treasurer:  Debbi Beauvais, SNS, Rochester, N.Y., and Dr. Cleta Long, SNS, Ed.D., Macon, Ga.

Northwest Regional Director*:  Lynne Shore, Willamina, Ore.

Southwest Regional Director: Dr. Lilly Bouie, Ph.D., Little Rock, Ark., and Monica Deines-Henderson, SNS, Falcon, Colo.

Employee/Manager Representative:Delete Coates, Gunnison, Utah, and Donna Myers, St. Cloud, Fla.

*Apreviously announced candidate for this position has since withdrawn fromconsideration.

Candidates for two positions on the Leadership Development Committee (the new name for the SNA Nominating Committee) round out the announcements made at ANC:

Midwest Region Representative: Mary Betlach, Robbinsdale, Minn., and Micheline Piekarski, SNS, Oak Park, Ill.

Southeast Region Representative: June Barrett, SNS, Montgomery, Ala., and Linda Irby, SNS, Hampton, Va.

Last spring, recruitment for three additional positions was deferred until the House of Delegates’ decision on the proposed governance restructuring, which was approved on July 11, 2015. Those three positions were scheduled to transition off the Board of Directors following approval of the bylaws amendments. In addition, the Leadership Development Committee had too few qualified candidates to establish a competitive slate for three other open positions.

Beginning in August, the Leadership Development Committee will be recruiting for three new At-Large Director positions, as well as for the Northeast Regional Director position; all four of these will serve on the Board of Directors. The Committee also will recruit a second candidate for the Board’s Northwest Regional Director position, as well as candidates to be elected to serve as Mideast and West Region Representatives on the Leadership Development Committee.

The Leadership Development Committee will meet in October at SNA’s annual Committee Days meeting to select candidates for the six open positions and the second opening for the Northwest Regional Director. A full slate will be announced following that meeting. Biographies of candidates selected for the slate will be available to view online in early January 2016.

The election will take place in February 2016, once again using a secure online voting website. This year, voting will be open for two weeks, February 15-29, instead of four weeks as in the past. Installation for the Board of Directors will continue to take place in July, during ANC. This new timeline closes the historically long nine-month gap between the former October/November election and the July installation.

Descriptions for the six open Board and Leadership Development Committee positions, and the Northwest Regional Director position, will be posted online (click the “About SNA” tab) in August. In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more details about the nominations process, or have a potential nominee for one of these positions, contact SNA Chief of Staff and Leadership Development Committee Staff Liaison Jean Geraghty at
