Pre-registration is required for all pre-conference sessions. Sessions may be canceled if not full. If canceled, registrants will be offered alternate courses or receive a full refund by mail after the conference concludes. Please register by June 3. SNA advises pre-conference registrants to wait to make schedule-dependent transportation plans until May 1, 2016.

Start your learning exploration a day early with these exciting pre-conference workshops. These sessions are a great way to stay ahead of the curve by gaining access to information you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, you’ll earn while you learn. All ANC attendees who attend the full conference will earn 12+ or training hours for Professional Standards, across all four key areas (Nutrition, Operations, Administration, Communications & Marketing).

In this interactive session, understand the required procurement methods, how to develop effective written procurement procedures, gain tips from other operators and participate in hands-on learning activities to apply the methods.

School Nutrition Ethics: What Should You Do? Train-the-Trainer Program

Secrets of #SchoolNutrition Branding: Beyond Meals on Trays

This intensive, hands-on workshop will allow participants to explore all aspects of branding a school nutrition program. You will learn the most effective strategies for developing a mission, vision and core values, as well as creating logos, a tagline and media content without spending a fortune. Using case studies and step-by-step activities, each participant will develop a brand action plan specific to the needs of their district and program.

Food Safety in Schools
Food safety is always a priority in school nutrition! Take advantage of this free training opportunity with the Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN) to get a refresher on safe and proper food-handling, receiving, preparation, storage and employee-hygiene procedures. State Agency Pre-Conference Workshop
This two-part, 8-hour pre-conference workshop will be held for state agency personnel. Register for one or both!

Part 1: Administrative Review Data is Going Local: The New FNS-640

State agencies: Stay up to date on how the new FNS-640 report is going local. Highlights include more site-level data, as well as a better understanding of the causes of program error and improper payments. Hear more about the required data elements, as well as the experiences of several state agencies on how they have integrated the revised form into their current systems.

Part 2: Strategies That Work! Team Up to Enhance School Nutrition Programs in Your State

Join USDA Food and Nutrition Service for an overview of their Team Up for School Nutrition Success (Team Up) initiative, which provides training and peer-to-peer mentorship to school nutrition professionals who want to maintain a healthy environment and strong meal program participation. A panel of three directors who have participated in Team Up will share their best practices for menu planning, financial management, increasing program participation and reducing food waste.

Supervisory Skill Development for Managers

Back by popular demand! Today, managers and supervisors are asked to do more with less. This highly interactive workshop focuses on discovering the inner leader in YOU! From understanding your communication style and the traits of others, you will identify workload organization and practice task delegation, address ways to implement change and handle conflict. Finally, you will practice personal leadership traits as you prepare to head back to school. Start the year with a toolbox of new supervisory skills, to keep you energized and ready to lead! Farm to Table: A Fresh New Approach to School Meals
Speaker: Chef Sharon Schaefer 
Join us for an action-packed pre-conference session focused on one of the hottest food trends—farm to table. This dynamic workshop will feature several stops with a farm to school focus. First, attendees will tour two gardens affiliated with Decatur City (Ga.) Public Schools, followed by a chef-led tour of one the Atlanta area’s best farmer’s markets. Top it all off with a hands-on demonstration by Chef Sharon Schaefer who will guide attendees on how to use these fresh ingredients to create their own culinary creations! Come learn how to incorporate fresh herbs, veggies, and fruits into your school food program.
(Lunch provided. *Please note attendees will utilize hands-on training led by a chef to prepare/create their own lunch. Some light walking outdoors in warm temperatures will be required so attendees should plan accordingly—be sure to bring a bottle of water and sunscreen. **Please note that the bus will begin boarding at 7:30 am. The bus will leave at 8:00 am SHARP so please be sure to be onboard.)
