Hidden Valley Ranch Grant

Each of the grants will support an elementary school in developing a program offering fresh vegetables and fruits throughout the 2009-10 school year. Grant awards were based on proposals that demonstrated need, innovation, greatest likelihood of sustainable impact on the students they are serving, and potential for community involvement.

The Love Your Veggies™ campaign is extremely pleased to be supporting innovative programs at the following schools nationwide:

  • Chief Ivan Blunka School – New Styuahok, Alaska: “The Eagles Garden”
  • Black Mesa Community School – Pinon, Ariz.: “Journey with Wellness & Healthy Lifestyle Guided by the Journey of the Sun”
  • South Elementary School – Jonesboro, Ark.: “Dirt to Fork”
  • Vonore Elementary School – Vonore, Tenn.: “Veggie Trails”
  • Drexel Elementary School – Tucson, Ariz.: “Growing Healthy With Vegetables”
  • Mt. Pleasant Cottage Elementary School – Pleasantville, N.Y.: “A Growing Adventure”
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Academy – Cincinnati, Ohio: “Healthy Me Habits”
  • Raul Yzaguirre School for Success – Houston: “Fresh Start”
  • Arlington Heights Elementary School – Los Angeles: “Healthy Habits for Kids”
  • Waterford Village Elementary School – Waterford, Mich.: “Veggie Village”

School Food Equipment Grants Included in Stimulus Package

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – a $789 billion economic recovery and stimulus package designed to stimulate the US economy. Several items within the bill positively benefit child nutrition programs including $100 million in school food equipment grant assistance – a provision that will save and create jobs in the foodservice equipment manufacturing sector as well as benefitting the quality of food provided through school nutrition programs. Below are resources and tools designed to help school nutrition professionals utilize the new grant program.
