ANC Program Guide Rates
60 percent of the cost of the regular open School Nutrition rates at earned frequency levels.
SN/ANC Program Guide Combo Rate
June/July insertion cost plus 50 percent of the cost of the regular rates. For example, a one-page, four-color ad for an 11-time advertiser in both June/July and the Program/ Buyer’s Guide equals $4,770 (11x, 4C page rate) + $2,385 (rate less 50%) = $7,155 combo rate.
Preprinted Inserts
Preprinted inserts furnished by the advertiser will be charged as follows: First side of the insert is billed at the earned full-page black-and-white rate. Each side thereafter is billed at the earned half-page black-and-white rate. A copy of the preprinted insert should be sent to SN Production at least one month prior to insertion. Ad Specifications
Advertising materials are preferred as digital files. Materials submitted as film or camera-ready copy will require conversion. Advertisers will be billed $100 to convert film to digital files. Publisher accepts no responsibility for errors resulting from materials not supplied to these specifications.
- Digital ad in QuarkXpress, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign at hi-resolution PDF files built in CMYK (No RGB files or PDFs)
- Transfer Media: CD-ROM
- Include all screen and printer fonts on disk
- At this time, ads cannot be accepted via email or FTP
- SN's preference is to have files built in layers; if you have embedded files please include them on disk
- Publication trim size is 8 3/8 by 10 7/8 inches
- Bleed size is 8 5/8 by 11 1/8 inches
- Live matter for one page should fit inside 7 1/2 by 10 inches
- Partial ads must not bleed (except 1/2-page spread)
- Density requirements are 75% cyan, 60% magenta, 60% yellow and 85% black. Maximum density of no greater than 280%
- Rotation of colors: black, cyan, magenta, yellow
- Spread trim size is 16 3/4 by 10 7/8 inches; bleed spread trim size is 17 by 11 1/8 inches
- Insert sheet size is 8 5/8 by 11 1/8 inches; live matter should fit inside 7 1/4 by 10 inches
- Spread insert sheet size is 17 1/4 by 11 1/8 inches including 1/4-inch grind off at center for binding
- All inserts jog to head, 1/8-inch head trim, 60-100 lb. stock
- Business reply cards must be 4-by-6 inches upon removal from the magazine. Perforation should be light and fall 1/2-inch from gutter
Proofs
All proofs submitted should be made from the files on the disk provided. Laser proofs are acceptable for content only. A proof, such as Kodak approval, IRIS, or Epson, should be submitted for all color insertions. We are not responsible for matching color from non-contract proofs or from proofs not made from the files provided.
Publisher's Policy
The publisher reserves the right to reject advertising that does not meet the publication’s advertising standards. New advertisers, especially, may want to request a copy of these standards from their School Nutrition advertising representative. Products advertised in SN must not run counter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value Policy.
Liability -- Advertisers and their agencies will assume liability for all contents -- including text, representation and illustrations -- of printed advertising and will assume responsibility for any claims against the publisher arising therefrom.
Space use deadline -- Advertisers must use all space within 12 months from date of first insertion.
Billing -- All ads will be billed the day of publication distribution. An agency commission of 15 percent is allowed to publisher-recognized agencies. The publisher will charge past-due accounts a monthly 1 1/2 percent service charge, amounting to 18 percent annually. The publisher will not pay agency commission on past-due accounts or on ads created and produced by the manufacturer, grower or producer. Advertiser and agency both are accountable for past-due accounts.
The publisher reserves the right to request any financial information necessary from agencies or advertisers wishing to establish credit for billing purposes, to require prepayment for publication services or to refuse to publish an advertisement by an agency or advertiser that is delinquent in its account. Agencies or advertisers must make space cancellations verbally and in writing by the 5th of two months prior to the date of the issue. Agencies or advertisers not following these cancellation guidelines will be required to pay for space contracted.
Placement -- Placement is on a first-come, first-reserved basis. The publisher makes every attempt to separate ads of competing companies by no fewer than four pages. Even in the case of noncompeting companies, the publisher will notify a full-page advertiser already confirmed in a position if another company’s full-page ad will be placed opposite the first company’s ad (excepting Cover 2 and Page 1). Note: Guaranteed placements require a 10 percent premium.
Make-goods -- SN will match color within 10 percent of the color as seen on the proof provided by advertisers along with film or disk.
Partial make-goods will be considered only for:
- color discrepancies where color does not fall within 10 percent of the proof provided
- incorrect insertions
No make-goods will be granted:
- if materials do not meet publication specifications or are received after the film due date
- if a company or agency insertion order is not received by the 5th of two months prior to insertion
- if a company or agency does not provide a color proof per SF&N specifications
- for an ad inadvertently left out of an issue
Reprint permission -- Because SN is a copyrighted publication, advertisers and their agencies must obtain permission from the editor to reprint articles.
Use of SNA logo -- The SNA logo may not appear in any advertisement without the publisher’s written permission.
