LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT:
The profession of school nutrition has been in transformation for several years. The future leaders of SNA will need to be transitional, assisting members to make sense of the remainder of HHFKA. More importantly, we need to position ourselves as the pre-eminent voice of school nutrition beyond reauthorization, promoting sensible legislation and policies that affect our programs. We shall continue to advocate for the health of our children and speak our convictions. I believe the next great opportunity for SNA is to have leaders who are strategic thinkers, strongly committed to service and with the vision to take us from a highly recognized association to the pre-eminent association for school nutrition. Leadership that is flexible and responsive to member’s needs will allow us to achieve our vision and shall be a key to continued growth and success.

GOALS:
To increase new membership and retain current members—recognizing and embracing the diversity of people who work in school nutrition and developing programs that are welcoming and meaningful to everyone, no matter what position level or district size; to continue strengthening and marketing effective training programs that are available to members from small to large districts; to continue to build strong partnership with the National Food Service Management Institute and other allied organizations so that we are the foremost voice of school nutrition; to continue fostering guiding principles and crafting a strategic framework that will provide for continued growth, purpose and relevance moving through the second decade of our 21st century.

As a child nutrition professional and leader for the past 28 years, I firmly believe that effective leadership comes down to the skills of influence and communication. The greatest challenge for leaders is to facilitate and create flexibility, change and growth in those that you lead. I believe that leadership is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities to inspire others, and to direct them to attain the vision and goals of SNA. As the leader of SNA I will encourage creativity, freedom of action and innovation that are consistent with the mission of the Association. I will also promote global thinking as a means to recognizing that our world is constantly and rapidly changing. To keep up, we must be prepared to seize opportunities that will in result in continued growth and learning by all member segments of SNA.
