In School Year 2012-2013, on-site data collection activities will be conducted in a nationally representative sample of school districts and schools across the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia. Data to be collected will include school administrative records, household income from parents/guardians, direct observation of school meal transactions and other information that will inform the study.

Comments should be addressed to: Desk Officer for Agriculture, Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Office of Management and Budget (OMB), OIRA_Submission@omb.eop.gov or fax (202) 395-5806, and to Departmental Clearance Office, USDA, OCIO, Mail Stop 7602, Washington, D.C. 20250-7602. USDA Has Released New Memos Regarding the Meal Pattern

USDA has released the following memos regarding the Meal Pattern: SP 10-2012-3 revised Q&A’s, SP 36-2012 Smoothies, and SP 37-2012 Separation of Vegetables/Fruits in the Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Programs.

The revised Q&A addresses FAQ’s related to the Certification of Compliance with Meal Requirements for the National School Lunch Program. Under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, an additional reimbursement of 6 cents per lunch is available for school food authorities certified to be in compliance with the new school meal patterns. Visit www.schoolnutrition.org/mealpattern or click here for the revised Q&A. New questions are in red italics. Any questions concerning this guidance should be addressed to the appropriate FNS Regional Office.

All of these memos can be found at www.schoolnutrition.org/mealpattern or www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/governance/legislation/nutritionstandards.htm.
