NSLW and NSBW 2011-12

Looking forward to putting on some great promotions during National School Lunch Week 2011 and National School Breakfast Week 2012? The April issue of School Nutrition, SNA’s award-winning flagship publication, showcases the themes for these celebrations and offers ideas for planning fun, healthy activities and events.

Helping children understand the connections between agriculture, meals and health is a critical goal of farm-to-school programs—and also of school nutrition professionals! The upcoming National School Lunch Week (NSLW) theme, “Let’s Grow Healthy,” is a perfect opportunity to celebrate both. Take a look at “School Lunch: Let’s Grow Healthy” for some of the promotion ideas suggested by several readers who consistently serve up creative NSLW activities.

During last October’s National School Lunch Week, the “What’s on Your Tray?” theme showcased the essential benefits of school meals while giving students the opportunity to display their unique personalities. Check out “All on a Day’s Tray” for a look at the creative, healthy fun that took place in cafeterias across the country.

The theme for National School Breakfast Week 2012, “School Breakfast—Go for Gold,” is your glittering opportunity to inspire kids to be the best they can be both physically and mentally. Learn about the resources and promotion ideas connected with this exciting celebration so that you can start your planning early.

The 2011 Child Nutrition Industry Conference (CNIC) earlier this year in Seattle was an intriguing exploration of the quest for quality that many vets are calling the best CNIC ever. “The ‘Liveliest’ Catch” explores conference highlights and memorable moments from the event.

Last November, a 13-member SNA delegation journeyed to India for an unforgettable eight days. In “Incredible India!” these SNA leaders share their reflections on school feeding and the country’s culture.

With all the attention being paid to increasing consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, it can be easy to overlook the fluid side of the nutrition equation. “Sports Drinks: Hitting Their Stride?” examines one of the most intriguing players in the beverage category—and one that is scoring with kids.
