H1N1 (Swine) Influenza Resources

This fall, school nutrition programs are doing more than preparing for the return of students.  They are making sure that their programs are able to continue to serve children in the event of school closings due to H1N1 (swine) flu.

With classes back in session, H1N1 influenza is beginning to spread through out the country.  Experts are urging school districts to be prepared for school closures. The federal government is urging local communities to make the decision on when to close a school due to H1N1 flu and in some areas, schools have been closed due to high numbers of students absent with flu like symptons.

SNA is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Education on this issue.  SNA is also working with USDA to educate school nutrition professionals on updated preparedness recommendations to continue meal service in the event of H1N1 flu related school closures. Listed below are resources and tools from the USDA that are designed to guide school nutrition programs facing an H1N1 flu outbreak.  This website will be updated as new information becomes available.
