Get Your Course SNA Approved

SNA offers Continuing Education Unit (CEU), Key Area Hour, and Core Course approval guidelines for school nutrition education and training programs. SNA approval of education and training programs allows training providers to help SNA members across the country satisfy the initial requirements for the Certificate in School Nutrition Program, Certificate Program maintenance and SNS Credentialing.

Guidelines for Core Courses

All Core Courses must be approved by SNA. Core Courses are workshops, seminars or online courses that meet objectives and goals which help to achieve best practices.

Core Courses:
  • Must be at least 8 hours of instructional time (does not include registration time or breaks)
  • Can be broken down into modules (i.e. two 4 hour sessions = 8 hours or four 2 hour sessions = 8 hours).
  • Must fall into one of the following categories:

  • A minimum of three learning objectives must be displayed at the beginning of the program presentation.
  • Handouts must be informational pieces directly related to the approved program.
  • Programs must be delivered without any type of promotional marketing or sale of products and/or services.

Core Course Approval Process

  • Requests for core course approval must be submitted to SNA for review 6-8 weeks prior to offering the program.
  • Once a core course or program is approved, SNA will send notification and a certificate template via email. Each program participant must receive a certificate of completion.
  • If the program content changes by more than 25%, then the provider must re-apply for program approval.

Core Course approval will be good for 5 years from the date of approval and SNA will maintain these courses in its database. Download and submit the Core Course Approval Form to get your course approved.
