Music to Your Mouth: National School Lunch Week is October 10 – 14, 2005

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 11, 2005 - What do the National School Lunch Program and music have in common? During National School Lunch Week this October 10 – 14, 2005, the answer is everything! School nutrition professionals nationwide are planning a week-long celebration around the theme School Lunch: It’s Instrumental! And because a nutritious school lunch is instrumental to learning, playing, being active and having fun, the whole family is invited to the cafeteria to join the festivities. So break out the harmonica and prepare to celebrate!

The School Nutrition Association and Otis Spunkmeyer® are again teaming up to help schools celebrate 2005 National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in harmony. Free event-planning tools and resources are available online to all interested in promoting school lunch and celebrating NSLW.

The website at www.schoolnutrition.org/nslw includes:

  • Menus and recipes that reflect the 2005 NSLW theme like Saxophone Salad and Cool Carrot Sticks & Bebop Broccoli
  • A promotional toolkit, including an event planning timeline and tips for working with the media
  • Templates for crafting press releases, public service announcements and fact sheets
  • Two activity sheets for children of all ages
  • A NSLW brochure for parents and students
  • Logos for the theme School Lunch: It’s Instrumental!
  • A sample proclamation making the Week official

The NSLW brochure will also be available to order online through the SNA Emporium, along with T-shirts, balloons, aprons, pencils, stickers and more items to help make the week festive. National School Lunch Week was established in 1963 by a proclamation from President John F. Kennedy. It is designed to help raise awareness for the important role that school nutrition programs play in the lives of America’s children
