New at ANC! Hot Topic Education Session on the New Meal Pattern

June 15, 2012 – SNA is taking an active role in addressing meal pattern questions and has appointed an Ad Hoc Working Group to develop a practical “How-To Guide” for SNA members. The goal of this Guide is to assist in the challenges of implementing the new meal pattern requirements for lunch scheduled to go into effect this fall. As part of the distribution efforts for this Guide, an education session will be held at SNA’s 2012 Annual National Conference (ANC) next month in Denver to discuss and share the new materials.

Entitled “We Can Do This: Advice and Resources for Meeting the New Meal Pattern,” this hot topic session will provide you with sample menus, resources and other valuable tools needed to interpret and implement the new meal pattern regulations. It will be presented by the SNA Ad Hoc Meal Pattern Working Group consisting of food service operators, state agency officials, industry and USDA representatives.

The session will be repeated throughout the conference (see dates and times below), so that everyone has an opportunity to attend.

Sunday, July 15 (12:00 pm-1:00 pm)
Monday, July 16 (2:15 pm-3:15 pm)
Tuesday, July 17 (10:00 am-11:00 am and 2:15 pm-3:15 pm)
Wednesday, July 18 (1:30 pm-2:30 pm and 2:45 pm-3:45 pm)

We urge you to take advantage of this important educational offering and be fully prepared to meet the new meal pattern requirements, as well as ready to show off all the healthy changes in your school cafeteria.

P.S. If you haven’t yet registered for ANC, there is still time. SNA has extended its Regular Rate registration deadline, and will now accept registrations until June 29, 2012. But hurry—after June 29th, all registrations must be submitted onsite and will be charged at the Onsite Rate.

Even when I attend conferences and meetings, after a short time, I go on the SNA website, click on "meetings" then click on the left for past meetings, find the meeting on the matrix, click on the year of the meeting and most all of the handouts, ppts and such are listed. While there is nothing to replace the benefits of attending the sessions, I've found this information very helpful and handy. I won't be attending this year and fully intend to make use of every bit of info I can get my hands on to assist me in developing compliant menus. Thanks, SNA, for making this info available to us.

I agree with the others, I hope there are materials available here or by mail with info on what makes up a lunch, breakfast and examples. As a cashier, that will be the most challenging.thanks.

Could the session be recorded like the webinars we often participate in & placed on the SNA site for those of us that can't attend. It would be greatly appreciated! The guide sound wonderful, hope we can receive the same materials as those attending the conference. Thank you!

I enjoy being able to go to the SNA National Conference site and reading up on the different sessions that had happened and being able to share it with my fellow managers who couldn't attend the conference. It's nice to be a part of a growing team. People helping others grow.
