School Nutrition Association on USDA Announcement Regarding New Ground Beef Choices for Schools
NATIONAL HARBOR, MD (March 15, 2012) – Today the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a statement regarding the safety of ground beef products. The release announced that in the upcoming school year the USDA Foods program will offer new ground beef options for schools.
School Nutrition Association (SNA), representing 55,000 school nutrition professionals who plan, prepare and serve school meals, is pleased USDA will offer schools the opportunity to choose from USDA Foods ground beef products either with or without Lean Finely Textured Beef. The Association will work with USDA in the coming months to resolve issues SNA members face as they work to identify ground beef products that meet both their customer’s requests and their operational requirements.
