June 4, 2012 – As you make plans to attend this year’s Annual National Conference (ANC), remember that Denver is also a great vacation destination. This charming city, known for its breathtaking views and sunny climate, is the perfect place to relax and take in many sightseeing adventures.
Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Denver is nicknamed the Mile High City because it is exactly 5,280 feet above sea level – or one mile high. You can even stand on the “mile high” step at the State Capitol Building.
Denver is a unique place -- where urban sophistication meets the great outdoors. It includes world-class museums, one of the nation’s most popular zoos, a wide-variety of outdoor adventures and a trendy downtown area with a shops and restaurants for everyone’s tastes.
Plus, there are plenty of great things to see and do just a short drive from Denver, with everything from Rocky Mountain National Park to a steam train ride or even gambling in an old west Victorian town.
You can also find all sorts of fun within walking distance of the ANC conference hotels and convention center. In fact, Denver is ranked as the fourth most walkable downtown in the nation. Or, perhaps you prefer taking in the sights by bicycle. It’s easy, using Denver’s bike sharing program (called Denver B-cycle), with over 50 bike stations around the city. And with over 850 miles of paved, off street bike trails the possibilities are endless.
