SNA Publishes List of Smart Snacks Exempt Fundraisers for 50 States

In preparation for the coming school year, SNA has compiled a report on each state’s response to the Smart Snacks Fundraising exemption allowed by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Under the Smart Snacks Interim Final Rule, each state is allowed to set a policy for infrequent school sponsored fundraisers that do not meet the Rule’s nutrition guidelines. The USDA guidance is here. If a state declines to set a policy, it automatically defaults to zero exemptions, which means that all school-based fundraisers during the school day must meet the Smart Snacks Nutritional Guidelines.

Please contact the Child Nutrition Policy Center should you have any questions. This report will be updated as proposed rules are made permanent or if there are any changes.
