SNA Joins Congressman Aderholt to Continue Discussion on Strengthening School Meal Programs

April 17, 2014 - Yesterday SNA participated with Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL) in school site visits to share in discussions with local nutrition program operators, school administrators and students in an effort to continue support for strengthening school meal programs.

Congressman Aderholt, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies for the House Appropriations Committee, has been advocating the importance and urgency of ensuring school nutrition programs are able to implement nutrition requirements in a sustainable manner.

SNA president Leah Schmidt, SNS, joined Congressman Aderholt in West Point School, Cullman, AL, to provide insight on national challenges and successes in school meal programs and hear from local students and school meal professionals.

"SNA looks forward to working further with Congressman Aderholt to continue to prioritize the long-term viability and strength of school meal programs in providing healthy, appealing options for students," said Schmidt.

During the school visit, Congressman Aderholt participated in a forum with school professionals, joined West Point High School juniors and their teachers for a library round-table discussion and toured the cafeteria before eating lunch with elementary students. The Congressman stressed the importance for stakeholders and supporters of school meal programs to contact USDA to urge their support on these issues.
