Rep. Grijalva Introduces Bill Requiring HHS to Supply Guidelines for Nutrition Related Continuing Education Credits

April 9, 2014 - Representative Grijalva(D-AZ) introduced a new bill that would require Health and Human Services to provide guidelines to Federal health professionals completing continuing medical education courses relating to nutrition. This is in response to several reports concluding that diet is the main cause of chronic disease and that 75 percent of healthcare costs result from the treatment of chronic disease. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 94 percent of physicians feel nutritional counseling is essential to their profession but only 14 percent feel they are adequately trained to provide it. More details on the bill can be found here.
